I Know What Davies Did This Summer

It's time for us to say goodbye to summer and hello to fall. Looking back at the Summer of 2016, we had some exciting events we did at Davies Molding.

In June, we participated in National Forklift Safety Awareness Day. We educated our employees on forklift safety for both the operators and pedestrians. We passed out informational sheets from OSHA and showed a short video.

To show appreciation to our hard-working employees, we had a BBQ in June. The customer service team helped plan and coordinate it. We couldn't ask for better food or weather that day.

We can't forget to mention the ice cream truck that came to our parking lot one hot day July. All of our employees were able to go out to the truck and pick out a tasty treat. That was definitely a summer event everyone enjoyed- even our sales reps that were visiting!

With July being such a hot month, we had a Heat Safety Awareness day. We passed out sheets that gave tips for staying cool in the hot weather and told employees what signs they need to watch for heat stress. The bottles of Gatorade we handed out cooled everyone off.

It's sad to say goodbye to summer, but we're looking forward to the fall activities that will be coming up. Stay tuned to read more about our Manufacturing Day Open House, our 2nd Annual Chili Cook Off and more!

What is Daka-ware?

Posted by Jenny DuPrey, Marketing Manager at Davies Molding

Aug 24, 2016 3:19:08 PM

You may have seen posts on our social media accounts or website that reference Daka-ware.  Most likely, you haven't heard the term before and are wondering where it originated from and what it means. We would like to give you a brief Davies Molding history lesson to explain Daka-ware.

As you probably already know, Davies Molding has been around for a long time. We've been designing and manufacturing insert-molded knobs, handles, cases and custom components since 1933. We have over 80 years of thermoplastic and thermoset molding experience! When we were molding products in the 1960's, we used Daka-ware as a trade name.

Daka-ware referred to our line of compression molded phenolic knobs, handles and ashtrays. Yes, you read that correctly, ashtrays- they were quite popular at that time. Daka-ware, phenolic parts, can withstand much higher temperatures than ABS or PVC plastics. We still have tools that have the Daka-ware name on them, so chances are, you will still come across the Daka-ware name when you see a Davies knob.

Summer Interns, Having a Blast!

Posted by Jenny DuPrey, Marketing Manager at Davies Molding

Aug 2, 2016 10:05:39 AM

Summer is coming to an end, which means it's almost time for our interns to head back to school. This year, we had Connor work in our engineering department. We asked him to tell us about his experience. Here's what Connor had to say:

Working at Davies as an engineering intern gave me the opportunity to see how the things I learned at school apply directly in the real world. At Davies, I was able to learn how business works in conjunction with engineering and development, and how engineering is a form of support for the operations that happen here. I was able to strengthen my skills at 3D modeling and received experience working with vendors and product development. Furthermore, I understand the nature of plastics much better than anything I read in a textbook. The most important thing I learned was how incredibly complex manufacturing operations are, and that each department relies heavily on one another in order to ship something as simple as a tiny knob.

Throughout the summer, I spent time with other Heico interns. It was interesting to see their corporate environment from multiple visits, and how a large company like Heico operates. It was a lot of fun to be able to demonstrate what really goes on at companies under the Heico name, and really show off the physical nature of my work at Davies. My peers were able to tour Davies and see where I spend my time each day. I think they got a better understanding of what manufacturing means.

Forklift Safety Day 2016

Posted by Jenny DuPrey, Marketing Manager at Davies Molding

Yesterday was National Forklift Safety Day 2016.  We use forklifs at our plant, so it was important to us to do something to participate in this event.

To bring awareness to all of our employees, we showed a forklift safety training video and provided handouts to everyone.  We explained key points of safety for the operators and the pedestrians.  To make the safety training a little sweeter, we handed out donuts as well!

Forklift Facts:

  • 20,000 serious injuries by forklifts are reported every year
  • 80% of forklift accidents involve pedestrians
  • According to OSHA, 70% of forklift accidents can be prevented with training and safety instructions

Yesterday was the last day of GPS 2016.  After 3 warm, sunny days in Calgary, the show is officially over.  We had more visitors stop by on day 3.  They expressed great interest in the Davies Descender Fracking Series.  We enjoyed explaining the benefits of these dissolvable frac balls.  If you're interested in learning more, please Click Here

GPS is definitely international in scope.  We had visitors from Europe, the Far East, South America and the Middle East.  We found it amazing to find Chicago Cub fans in Calgary.

It's been a great week, but time to get back to the Windy City!

Global Petroleum Show- Day 2

Posted by Jenny DuPrey, Marketing Manager at Davies Molding

Jun 9, 2016 2:34:31 PM

Day 2 turned out to be a great day at the GPS 2016 show in Calgary.  We had many visitors come by the booth to learn more about Davies and our Descender line of dissolvable frac balls.  We had one person think our frac balls were candy!  We added a disclaimer, to make sure nobody would eat them.  They are dissolvable, but not for human consumption.  This certainly became a topic of conversation.

Yesterday, we had an opportunity to visit with one of our Heico sister companies, ARDCO.  They were displaying their impressive off-road equipment in the outdoor area at the show.

Today, is day 3 of the show.  It's the final day.  We'll give you a recap on the last day and closing of the show tomorrow.  Stay tuned!

Global Petroleum Show- Day 1

Posted by Jenny DuPrey, Marketing Manager at Davies Molding

Jun 8, 2016 10:19:52 AM

It was a beautiful day in Calgary yesterday with warm, sunny skies.  The perfect start to GPS 2016!  We set up the Davies Molding booth #2123 in the Corral exhibit hall at Stampede Park and were ready to go.

We had many visitors come by to discuss our standard knobs, handles, cases and our custom plastic components.  But, with this being the Global Petroleum Show, there was a definite interest in our frac balls and the Davies Descender series of dissolvable frac balls.  As oil prices continue to rise, fracking activities are expected to pick up, creating a great opportunity for our frac balls.

We did have several visitors ask us about other possible applications for our DDP resins.  What a great idea!  Yes, we can produce other shapes and down-hole components using these resins!

We're looking forward to Day 2 and more great conversations with the attendees of GPS 2016!

Please visit to learn more about our Descender series and other products we manufacture.

It's summer!  Technically, it's still spring, but with the recent warmer temperatures in Chicagoland, summer is in the air!  That means that it's time for Davies Molding to have a summer intern work with us.  We're excited to have an engineering intern this summer.  We would like for you to meet Connor.

Connor grew up south of Cleveland, OH, but now lives in St. Charles, IL.  He is currently attending Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.  Connor is studying Mechanical Engineering.  He just finished his junior year and is looking forward to senior year and graduation in 2017.

Connor will be working on various engineering projects including: working on CAD, updating parts and designing new parts.  We're going to keep him busy with projects, but when he's not here, you will probably find him on a long distance run.  Connor is an avid runner.
